Hawaiian Word of the Day

Hawaiian Word of the Day Collection

The Hawaiian Word of the Day Collection -- is inspired by the Hawaiian Language in its written form.  Hawaiian Language in its written form was created in the early 1800s by Missionaries who had made their way to Hawai'i to spread the word of GOD amongst the Hawaiian Indigenous People.  Until then, Hawaiians communicated by other means -- Vocal and Audio, like Beating of Drums and other instruments or objects like the Bell Stones located in the Wailua Valley on Kaua'i; or Chanting the Family Genealogy; or Performing Dances to Songs telling stories of Love and War --  a cultural practice preserved in today's Art of the Hula; and finally, these strange, mysterious Petroglyphs.

The Petroglyph at the top of this webpage is located at the entrance to King Kaumuali'i's home 2-miles up Wailua River, Kaua'i

In this Picture (taken with my cell phone), The Stone with these Petroglyphs is located at the mouth of Wailua River.

Both Petroglyphs signifies Royalty, illustrated by the Rainbow Lines over the Human Figures.

We used Four Hawaiian Words to create Four Different Designs: HAU'OLI -- 'UHANE NOA -- POMAIKA'I -- MALIE.
